CAN'T GET MY HEAD TO WORK PROPERLY. DOES THE HEAD USE THE WATER FROM THE HOLDING TANK? WHATS THE BEST TOOL TO GET THE FRESH WATER HOLDING TANK SCREW OFF SO I CAN FILL IT UP. IT'S PRETTY TIGHT. JUST TO UPDATE YOU GUYS MY DEPTH FINDER ONLY WORKS WHEN MY BOAT IS IN FORWARD IS THAT COMMON ? THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP THE MORE I GET OUT THERE THE MORE I LEARN.

Ahem...

In reply, Please turn off the caps lock and stop SHOUTING! >CAN'T GET MY HEAD TO WORK PROPERLY. DOES THE HEAD USE THE WATER FROM THE HOLDING TANK? I don't know what kind of boat you have, but assuming it has a standard pumping marine head, no it shouldn't unless someone really screwed up the system. >WHATS THE BEST TOOL TO GET THE FRESH WATER HOLDING TANK SCREW OFF SO I CAN FILL IT UP. IT'S PRETTY TIGHT. Get a deck key. It has a number of different edges that fit in a number of different types of fill caps. >JUST TO UPDATE YOU GUYS MY DEPTH FINDER ONLY WORKS WHEN MY BOAT IS IN FORWARD IS THAT COMMON? Hehe... well, in all my years of sailing you are the only person interested in how fast a sailboat goes BACKWARDS. I would say it really doesn't matter? >THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP THE MORE I GET OUT THERE THE MORE I LEARN. I would (and I am sure others as well) suggest you get much better educated about some things on your boat, especially where water is coming from into the head and where the valve for that is, before you do too much more "getting out there". The life you save may be your own. Chris

Head

You don't say what kind of boat you have but the holding tank on most boats is just that, to hold sewerage till you get to a pumpout. The intake for your toilet bowl should be raw water from whatever you are sailing in, look for a thru hull fitting near the toilet and figure out if that is supplying water to the toilet. That is your intake to the toilet, follow the lines out of the toilet to see where it enters the holding tank. Then you need to look for a deck fitting where you can empty the holding tanks at an approved shoreside pumpout facility. You also may have a pump to pump out the holding tank while offshore instead of a pumpout facility.

Hey Chris, lighten up!! Weren't you ever new at this sailing thing? I bet you asked some pretty "dumb" questions yourself, I doubt that you started out as an expert. If folks don't ask they won't learn. By the way, the depth sounder is used to give you the depth of the water, not how fast your going through it. Russ
