Had to take advantage of a transport from Little Creek to Deltaville on my "new" 1973 #539 Catalina 27. She's a beaute. The guy I bought it from knew nothing. He owned it for 3 months, then his wife found out...now we own it. My problem is the head holding tank I don't think was pumped, and now out of water I am trying to figure a way to pump this sucker out. I figure I'll have to get out some scuba gear and a radiation suit, and try to syphon this thing into some 5 gal. buckets, then add them to my septic tank. Anybody out there have any suggestions? I've looked on line everywhere for some clues, but figure this is one subject people are trying to avoid...can't blame them, but somebody's gotta do it.

I used a self-priming pump called a Super Gusher with 3/4" attachment points. Used garden hose clamped to the pump, then run down into the tank, then start pumping and hold your breath.

Say, your not far from me over in Gloucester, Va. Shipwreck's idea about the pump would probably work, just don't reuse that garden hose for watering after that! One funky hose it will become.

I don't know your location or logistics to marinas but some utilize portable pumpout systems that are towed like a utility trailer. Possibly you can rent one or employ their services?

Thanks for the info. Am trying to formulate the least offensive way of tackling this project. Will incorporate all the ideas. Appreciate the comments. Jay

FYI: Malwart also sells a really cheap hand pump with clear plastic hoses attached to a priming bulb and piston type pump that can be bought for around 10 bucks. At least you could use this then discard it without a big investment, because after U pump sewage through a pump it will forever be funked and unusalbe for anything else.

I've never had your problem, my boats have always been in the water 12 moths per year. You indicated you have a septic tank. I asssume septic tanks and cesspools have to be pumped periodically, so why not give them a call and see what they say. Also, I see trucks pumping out porto parties. Maybe they'd be another source. It might cost you a few more bucks but wouldn't you rather just stand there and watch someone handle the situation for you?

Also, check with Peggy "the head mistress" on this site and see what she says. She might have a better idea.
