Head on an O'Day 27
Brian, I think Jim is right. You're better off with a Porta-Potti. I helped a friend deliver his 1986 O'Day 272 wing keel sloop from Cape Cod to Bristol R.I. a few weeks ago. He had a regular marine head with a holding tank, possibly like yours, and he told me that if the holding tank ever got too full, it could break. In our area, pump outs are free right now, but I have no doubt that they will start charging for this service in the near future. I usually need to dump my Porta-Potti about once, and sometimes twice a season, but when my wife and I sailed to Martha's Vineyard years ago, if my head got full, I'd stick the holding tank portion of the head in a large plastic bag and carry it to a public restroom and dump it in the stall head. Now that my house is tied into city sewage, I can dump my head into a sewer clean-out in back of my house, which is probably against the law, but what difference does it make? It all goes into the same place. Anyway; The Porta-Potti is the way to go, at least for me.Joe
