I get a horrible rotten eggs/sulphur smell whenever i use the head after not having used it for a couple of days. I recently saw a device in the Boat US catalog (i cant recall the name). I hooks up between the head and the sea water intake. you put a "disc" in the device and it chemically treats the water which stays in the intake line when the head is not in use. every time you draw water into the head, it passes over the disc and gets deodorized. The disc is basically a chemical "block" about with a diameter of about 3 inches and three inches thick. It is supposed to last about 1 month. any experience with this product?

Try it

JJ, I looked it up in Boat US and it seems interesting. The odor is caused by marine life that is trapped in the hoses, dies and decays. Often just running fresh water down the systemn when you leqave the boat will take care of it or some vinger. Hey for $40 the system might be worth a try. Let us all know how it works Good luck Charlie

EarthSafe?

You may be referring to something called and EarthSafe sanitizing system which is similar to what you describe. We tried that on our boat but found its effectiveness varied as a function of water temperature from not-to-great at cold to worthless at very warm. As an alternative, I found that simply adding a little chunk of a pool bleach tablet to the raw water strainer on the head raw water intake once in awhile seemed to kill the bugs, and smell, for several months at a time. The bleach won't do your seals any good but since I service mine a 6 month intervals anyway, I figured the trade-off was worth it. (Note too that the EarthSafe "cakes" are not inexpensive.) Good Luck!
