We need a few more details to offer recommendations. What type of head? Fresh water or raw water flush, etc.?

As Kappy said, need more info. Do you have a manual pump? Did you see itmwork or is the PO just sayin. Did it freeze up last winter?

When we got our boat it had a portapotty sitting on the head. Trashed that and discovered our head was direct discharge with the thru hull knob broken off in closed position. All new tank, plumbing and manual pump later it works like a champ.

Male/model/age of your toilet? What exactly is it doing--no flush water? Flush water coming in, but bowl contents won't go anywhere? Goes down, then backs up? If a manual toilet, are you feeling increased resistance when you pump? If electric, is it getting power? If it is, any of the symptoms I described above?

Well, you can tell we're newbies. It's a manual pump type drawing fresh water from the lake to flush. I will check the make next time I'm there. Thank you for quick responses!

You probably need a rebuild kit for your model. Not difficult to do, but kinda gross.

Take a picture of the toilet pump (the PUMP...all bowls look alike) that will let me ID it if you can't. Meanwhile, can you answer the rest of my questions? If I know what it's doing or not doing, I'll have a pretty good idea of what's causing the problem.

I'm working on pics and more specific details, but yes, I saw it work last season. Nothing went down that I know of. It didn't freeze, had antifreeze during winter. It pumps but water isn't coming in. More soon

"Nothing goes down" isn't asking if something got dropped in the toilet, it means "bowl contents aren't going anywhere." If you'll actually read and answer every one of my questions individually, I can give you a list of things to check out the next time you're on the boat that MAY solve it immediately. "It worked last year" doesn't give me much to go on.

Do you have this type of pump?

Jabsco 29040-3000 Marine Manual Marine Toilet Pump Assembly Kit (29090- Series) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001794BS0/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_P3-Nvb6N9P11Q

If so make sure the lever behind the handle is in the wet position and the raw water intake thru hull is open.

Also note the newer pumps have a locked position to keep ti from allowing water or other such in when not in use. If you pump does nay have this feature it is not a bad idea to replace it. Personally replacing the pump is really easy compared to the mess of a rebuild.

Well, two amazing and helpful guys at my marina pulled the thing out, took it all apart, replaced a ball valve and something else and then put it back in. I'm touched beyond words by their generosity and also people's willingness on this site to help out. We're back in business!
