Those old ones were probably CW's. I suggest you consider a total replacment with a Raritan PHIIC

Replace it

I can ID for you if you'd like to post or email a photo of the pump (NOT the bowl...all bowls look alike!)...but no matter which of the "budget" compact manual toilets Hunter was using in 1986, they all only had an average lifespan of 7-9 years...yours is 24 years old. Toilet mfrs also redesign equipment fairly regularly, so it's unlikely that you can still get a service kit or any other parts for a toilet that old...and even if you could, it's not likely to help much...and the toilet prob'ly also needs parts that aren't in the kit.

So if you want a toilet that's reliable, durable and trouble free, the only sensible thing to do is give it a decent burial and replace it.

But keep the bowl...'cuz this is the best deal on the planet: sbo.com PHII PHC LBA Raritan PH toilets have been rated the best manual toilets under $500 for more than 30 years. A bunch of people here have upgraded to 'em and not a single one regrets doing it.

Please excuse the "dirty photo". I do not have room for anything other than the "up and down" pump of the original head. Any help figuring out how to find a service kit will be greatly appreciated.

From what I could see...

Your toilet is either a Wilcox-Crittenden Headmate or a Jabsco...from what little I could see of the top of the pump, I'm about 80% certain it's a Headmate. It was was discontinued two years ago...you MIGHT still be able to get a kit for the current version, but unlikely you'll find a kit for any more than 10 years old. Jabsco no longer offers service kits for toilets that old. But you'd be throwing good money after bad if you could find a kit for it...the kits cost almost as much as the entire pump.

The Raritan PH II and PHC toilets have the same type of "up and down" piston/cylinder as your existing toilet. The pump handle is the only difference (except for the quality and durability). So you do have room for the PHC.

I don't care what you buy...if money is that tight, buy a Jabsco...they're cheap--both price and quality...you can buy one for about 20% more than the rebuild kit for it (the kit for the current version...it won't fit yours!)...you might get a couple of years decent use from it if you don't abuse it. But a toilet is only one part of the sanitation system...you also need need hoses and maybe a new holding tank too. And if the rest of the boat is in the same shape as that toilet, you have a whole BUNCH of equipment and systems that are gonna need a whole BUNCH of money!

So maybe the best answer for you right now is a portapotty--an "MSD" version designed to be permanently installed and fitted for pumpout...just like a holding tank connected to a "regular" marine toilet...but it doesn't need any plumbing except a pumpout line and a vent. Total cost: < $200 for 5-6 model that holds 50-60 flushes. The online store at this site offers the top two--the Dometic/SeaLand 735 MSD and the Thetford 365 MSD--for as good a price as you'll find anywhere. http://shop.sailboatowners.com/category.htm?cat=3703

Before you do anything, you might want to spend a little time reading the discussions in the "Headmistress" forum...a forum devoted entirely to sanitation systems. And I'm always glad to help you get stuff sorted out.

Thank you for all your help!
What are the chances the Raritan pump (CPIIPUMP) will fit on the exissting base, saving me from having to make that additional change?

You don't want the CP II pump...

It's not nearly as good a pump as the PHII/PHC, but costs just as much. The PHC LBA definitely WILL fit your space...it was designed to be a replacement for compact toilets. I don't know whether the pump will fit your existing base, but it's so easy to swap out the whole thing (toilets are mounted using lag bolts, so no nuts...just back out the bolts) that I wouldn't mess with trying to make the PH pump fit your beat up old base. Save your bowl, seat and lid...clean 'em up...mount 'em on the new base and pump assembly and...whoohoo!

Now...we really need to talk about hoses and holding tank.
