Sorry I don't get a chance to check the forums very often. I saw where there was some discussion a few weeks back, about the porta-pottys not being big enough. We discovered this the second season we owned our '93 23.5 and took a week long cruise with our family of 7. Our second day out, while headed to our second port-o-call, I announced that "the head is full". The next morning, the entire family was on deck in record time, waiting for the water taxi to take us ashore. Before our next adventure, I installed a permenant head with a holding tank. The head is a Wilcox-Critenden (sp?), the only one that I could find to fit under the v-birth. I put the 5 gallon holding tank in the storage under the v-birth, and the pump out in the anchor locker. The water inlet thru hull is all the way aft of the ballast tank. If anyone would like specifics on this project, or some pics, I'ld be happy to oblige. Rob

Very Impressed!

The permanent head is nice, but the fact that a family of 7 survived a week on a 23.5. Now that's impressive.

I'm amazed!

There's only two ways I can I think of to find enough sleeping room for everyone: either you slept in shifts...or you lashed two of 'em to the boom each night. :) But what really has me puzzled is how you gained anything by replacing a portapotty that holds 3 gallons and uses only about a cupful of flushwater with a 5 gallon tank and a toilet that uses at LEAST 2-3 times that much flush water...????

We're a VERY close family

The members of the family have grown now, so we don't have as many along anymore, but there were a few years where all 7 of us would take our annual cruise. The youngest was small enough to sleep on the port settee by the sink, three would share the aft birth, the tallest would sleep on the starbord settee (so his feet coul hang over), and my wife & I would take the v-birth. We would also take advantage of the cockpit whenever possible, too. We would draw some intersting looks in marinas, usually the smallest boat, but the largest crew. But now we've grown down to our boat, ususally it's now only Cathy & I, and the 2 yougest boys, 16 & 11. I just checked the boat, and the holding tank is 6 gallons, and the old porta-potty was 2.8 gallons. Don't know about how much the fixed head takes to flush, but with the entire family along, we could stretch the time between pumpouts to 3 days, if we take advantage of shore facilities where we can.
