Peggy, We have a Raritan PHII head that has odor problems. Last Spring we replaced the bladder holding tank with a rigid plastic tank but we still have unpleasant odors. We are considering replacing the hoses as well. Do you have a recommendation about what type, brand, or specifications for hose to use that will prevent odors? Thanks.

Purchase the best quality Head hose possible. Many of the hoses, if older, have almost invisible so called "weather" lines which allow the odor to permeate through.

Test the hoses first....
Clean off about a foot of each section of hose (this is to prevent picking odors from another source that have attached themselve to the outside of the hose). Wet a clean rag in HOT water..wring it out, wrap it around the hose (use a separate clean rag for each section of hose). When the rag has cooled, remove it, smell it. If you can smell the same odor on the rag, the hose has permeated. If you can't smell anything on the rag, the hoses aren't your culprit. If new hoses are called for, this is the ONLY hose to buy: http://www.aussieglobe.com/avs96.htm If your hoses aren't the culprit, get back to me for help in finding it. Merr Christmas!

Head Hose Replacement
Before you go through all the hassle of replacing the hoses, check and see if you have a holding tank vent filter. If clooged or old this could very easily be your problem. If it is the hoses, my recomendation would be a product from Sealand called OdorSafe Plus hose. You can get it @! West Marine for about $9 a foot. I have also had good luck using Raritans K.O head treatment. I'm also of a believer in NOT using household cleaning chemicals on my systems. I believe this causes the hoses and tanks to degrade and become porous and take on odors. Theres my 2cents for you
