I have recently installed a new holding tank (new aluminum, from same mfg as original, I know plastic is better but they had original specs to build with) in my H33.5 and am in process of replacing the hoses with Sealand Odorsafe (1.5 inch). Problem is they are a nightmare to work with - when I try to bend to the same shape as the originals, they kink or simply won't go, I tried heating with blow dryer to give some shape but doesn't do much - someone suggested heat gun but I know you oppose this. I don't have one knuckle without a cut on it... I either need 90 degree curved elbows to attain the same shape (which were not used before and I can't seem to locate) or there is a trick I am missing? Also, since this is hose to aluminum, should I use a sealant where the hose meets the tank fittings? my yard says no but I'm not sure about that. Help.

How many tines do I have to say it...

NEVER heat a hose to try to make it bend tighter than it wants to bend willingly...that will cause the skin on the outside of the radius to tear and weaken the inside of the bend enough to cause the hose to kink. If you have a tight bend, break the hose and use an inline radius fitting. If you can't find 'em anywhere else, you can order 'em from SeaLand: http://www.sealandtechnology.com/productpages.asp?pid=66 (scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to see the drawings and part #s). It's actuakkt nuch easier to use inline fittings...'cuz you can run one end of the hose TO the bend...the other end TO the bend.,.then connect both ends to the fitting...no wrestling or skinned knuckles. Your yard is right...NO sealant! You might want to check out the link below. If you had before you installed the tank, you could have saved yourself a lot of grief (you could have dont that just by reading the bloomin' archives, 'cuz I must have posted this at least a dozen times)...and it'll save you a lot of future grief by helping you maintain the system properly.

Not to mention the increased strain

on all of the fittings. If the job is done right everything lines up without having to force it.
