Head holding tank & old sails

I have noticed many diferent arrangements for pumpout tanks. Our Vega
has a flexible tank. It was installed to follow the law. I do not
think it was ever used. The owners used a bucket! In any event the
tank was certified to be used as a water tank not a waste tank.

I saw in some of the Vegas pictures of a tank behind the head. It
was in stainless steel (I think). Is this available on the market?

Perhaps other Vega owners would like to put in their two cents on how
they worked out the holding tank.

Also I would like to get rid of our old sails. It is a complete set
save the spinnaker. The prices will be low. The old main is in sad
shape but the other sails are serviceable. I will be replacing them.
(After all, I am a sailmaker) I am in Montreal, Quebec.

Hello Alan:

As a sailmaker, perhaps you might propose making more than one set of
sails and selling to members of this group. If you can quote a price
in Canadian dollars (I live in Vancouver) there may be some interest
(I am) in ordering new sails. Give it some thought.

Cheers

Ditto............I am also interested.

If you have reccommended/optimal main sail measurements that would also be great to have on file...............Gracias Jim 3228

Hi Alan,
I have just restored a $500 vega . She is docked in
San Pedro CA.I have also thought about a holding tank
as i bought her minus a head. I am a metal sculptor in
Los Angeles and have a large welding shop so obviously
a stainless steel tank is a good solution. Maybe I
could make one for you when I make mine.

Hello Brett

Thank you for your offer. I am not sure how you could get the tank to
me.

Mostly I am canvassing other Vega owners their solutions to the
holding tank. How big a tank are you considering? Will it displace
the sink.

Tell us about your adventures of restoring you Vega.I am doing a
complete refit of ours. Replacing the interior, redoing all the
plumbing, maybe replace the engine etc...

check out Tarka the Otter

Hi Brett,

I kept boats in San Pedro for many years, at California Yacht Anchorage, Fleitz Brothers, and Holiday Harbor, and was a member of the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club. I lived in San Pedro for a while, near Western and Toscaninni.

I will be in Los Angeles next month, and will probably stop by San Pedro. I would like to look at your boat; What marina is it in, and what slip number? Of course I won't go aboard, but will just take a quick look.

As a metal sculptor it might interest you to know that I have a couple of large pieces by Konreid Muench; one in the courtyard of the house, and the other along the driveway. I also had him do a set of crushed metal gates for the entrance to the property.

Hi Mort,
"Celerity" is at the old Carillo Way Marina , Slip
#110 but the numbers are barely visible. Standing on
the road looking at the boats she is hidden by a boat
called "Mercy". Dark green sides , Tan topsides and
polished stainless steel ports.
No I don't know Muench but I have done gates also. If
you're in Silverlake ,where Fletcher crosses the L.A.
River you will see some of my gates at the public
access to the river in Rattlesnake Park.
If you make it to the Chinatown area I would be
happy to give you a studio tour.
