Started ANOTHER PROJECT!
1986 Oday 272 Head has a Bag style Holding Tank? Apparently standard? Is this a good system or should I replace with a plastic Poly Tank?
Good and Bad experience - need Pros and Cons?

Hello Happy Dolphin,

We have a rigid tank under the V berth as Charles mentioned. We removed it for cleaning and replacement of the 1 1/2 inch tubing. The openings in the fiberglas under the cushions were not large enough to get our tank out. In order to complete the project with a minimum of contortions and grumbling we cut an access opening in the fiberglas of the V berth area. This opening is in the vertical section of fiberglas directly forward of the head. I planned the opening to allow the tank to come out and go back in with a bit of room to spare. When we were done with the installation of the tank and tubing we trimmed the rectangular opening with salvaged teak moulding and added a piece of plywood on the surface. That piece of plywood can be removed by taking out 4 screws. The opening provides easy access to the depth sounder and knot meter and some other through hull valves that live under the V berth too.

Our boat has a box that the tank rests on. The tank is fastened to the box using plastic tie-down straps that appear to be gray hardware grade with holes every inch for screws.

The bladder type holding tanks have always scared me because of my uncanny ability to cut or puncture things.

Do you have problems with it? Odor? If not don't bother with it. There is nothing wrong with a bag style holding tank. As you can see from other posts, young need do some cutting to get a rigid tank in place. That is not something that you should take lightly.

Phil, Charles and Panta Rei,
Thank you for you comments and responses! I (hopefully we) have decided to give the Head holding bladder a try... If we have an issue - Plan 2 will be implemented!
The project continues - replaced counter top and Clean, Clean Clean, Seal, Seal Seal...
Regards, John and Sue
