Peggy et al, What is the correct method for flushing (rinsing?) the head out during or after a pumpout? Should I literally fill the holding tank with freshwater and do another pumpout? I have been simply filling the head to brim with fresh water and letting the pumpout suck it through. That brings up another point... should I have the head swicth in the wet mode and allowing this to happen? Just seemed like a quick way to get some clean water through things???? BTW, see you at Back to the Bay III in Solomons MD!!!

How I've always done it (seems to work):

During every pumpout, pump as much water as you can through the toilet into the tank. If you can do it without getting charged for a second one, while the pumpout is still connected, but not running, try to get 4 or 5 gallons into it, then pump that out. About every 4th or 5th pumpout, fill the tank till it's overflowing out the vent...let it run till the water running out the vent is clean...pumpout again. During both operations, put a bit of C.P. down the toilet...it'll help to clean out the hose as well as the tank. Re Back to the Bay III...I'm REALLY looking forward to being there again! Not only is it about the most fun you can have with your clothes on, but one of best parts of it for me is meeting so many of the folks here "live and in person!" See you there!
