The pump for the forward head on our Hunter 45 CC, will run, but it will not drain the toilet bowl. Any suggestions?

Hi Jeff. Had a similar problem many years ago and wrote an article about it here: Hunter 42 Owner Modifications and Upgrades

Could be other factors; clogged discharge hose due to a buildup of mineral deposits that we also had. Thread on that one in the archives. Does the pump bring water into the bowl? Do you know whether your tank is full or not? If full, did you pump it out?

You forgot to mention a blocked tank vent that's pressurized the system, Terry. One other possibility: a failed discharge impeller caused by running dry. Often the result of neglecting to open the intake thru-hull before using the first time after being away from the boat..which would also "fry" the intake impeller. That would cause the motor to run without bringing in any water either.

Hi Peggie. The clogged tank vent is mentioned in the linked article in my reply to the OP. That was the culprit in our case. Unsure about the OP issue; too little information to make any kind of recommendation other than possibilities. Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well with you and your family. Getting pumped (no pun intended) over the coming season. And you?

No the pump does not empty the bowl full of water.
Did you read my article in the earlier post? If you remove the cap on your deck pump out fitting, does the bowl empty when you flush? Is your holding tank empty or full? Just ruling out various causes. If the bowl does not empty by trying the above then likely time to check the impeller as Peggie suggests.

It's a myth that, unless there's very little in the tank, opening the deck pumpout cap can provide any air to the tank because the pumpout line goes to the bottom of the tank. You need a source of air above the surface of the contents. But what you may get if the tank is pressurized is a geyser.

One big clue to a blocked vent is hissing in the toilet bowl during pumpout as it tries to bring in air from any source it can find.
