I've owned my 30 ft. Hunter four seasons . A sailing buddy suggests that I torque my head bolts . The motor runs great as is . Should I leave well enough alone ? If torqueing is a great idea , what sequence ? And how many pounds ? I'm just about ready to launch , any help will be appreciated .

Don't mess with it.

Hunter recently changed its recommendation to retorque heads after the first 50 hours. If done properly its OK but you can damage things if you are not exactly right. I think Yanmar found that there are no problems with un-retorqued heads.

Yep, modern materials (gaskets) are making

re-torquing a thing of the past. But if you re-torque be sure to check the valve clearance. Without a head-bolt torque chart, the best way to do a proper job is to start at the center and work your way to the ends. I've never seen a torque pattern chart that wasn't laid out like that anyway.
