On my new 1983 Catalina 30 the halyard winchs on the mast often foul the rope/wire when being raised even when there is an extra person tailing the line. The rope rolls up against the inside of the winch and "falls" back down over itself. Is there a way to adjustor "balance" the winch? I hope this is clear enough.Thanks,

Bryan,Try taking only 1 or 2 wraps while you are hoisting. Then when you are ready to tighten the luff, take a few more and take it to the proper tension. Any time you have more than a few wraps and are spinning a winch, you can easily have an over-wrap or bunch up line against the base. faire winds
