Have a bimini made

I have a 1984 34' Hunter with a dodger designed and installed by a local canvas company. I would like to add a bimini this year, and asked the maker of my dodger for a price, and he quoted me $1900, plus $300 for a piece to connect and attach the new bimini to the existing dodger. I also checked hunterowners.com for a price and it was about $1100-$1200, a considerable savings.

My question is has anyone purchased a bimini from huntersowners.com, and, if yes, are they happy with the quality, fit, etc.

Most of us would always promote the store here on HOW. But that price will not get you the front zipper, a zipper on the dodger, nor the connecting piece. And it will not get you a custom frame that might be necessary or desired to clear winches. Or maybe you would like attachment to the pushpit instead of the coaming or toerail. In other words someone to work with you on frame design. The quality here on HOW has been excelllent from what I have read and for products that I have purchased(no canvas). I would suggest one more estimate from a local shop before you make a decision either way.

Some food for thought -- I bought a ready made one from Cabelas for $220 that goes the width of the boat and mounts to the sides of the stern rail where the lower lifelines attach. Then paid another $120 locally to get slits and zippers in the sides so that the backstay could go through. I would have liked one of the nice stainless ones, but I really only use the bimini 3-4 months out of the year anyway. It comes off quickly and can be broken down for storage.

Sorry to find this thread a little late... our bimini for the 34 has a stanless steel frame designed specifically for the 34. The connecting flap and zipper can be added for an additional $40. You'd need someone local to attach the zipper to the dodger.

The Cabela's and other off-the-shelf biminis are basic, stock designs that may not work for your boat or could require substantial mods. You get an aluminum frame and the top is probably not Sunbrella. it probably won't last long. All the frames we offer are designed to accommodate winches, booms, backstays, etc. If some of your deck gear or rigging has been moved or changed, we'll work with you to create a modified frame for your boat.

Where to buy Hunter 34 adjustable backstay bimin, rail mount

Where can I get more information about purchasing such a bimini or at least the frame (I can sew and have a sailrite machine). The boat is currently in Havelock (near Oriental) NC.

is it possible to purchase the frame (rail mounted) and a pattern for the bimini? My concern is the cut-outs (zippers?) for the backstays.

McCotters Marina in Washington has a canvas girl named Shirley. She does the finest canvas work I've ever seen and they've also got someone there who can build the frame for you. You get what you pay for.l
