In prep for haulout I'm in the process of converting my steel fixed cradle to folding (our club stores offsite in the summer and I don't think my neighbours would like it in our driveway again next year!). This being our first year with the boat (1981 h27) I'm also not sure that this is the original cradle and that it was sized quite right to begin with... Does anyone have the distance (fore and aft) between where the pads (4) should go to provide proper support over the winter? I presume they should sit under bulkheads to prevent oil-canning the hull. Also if available how their replacement relates to the keel (although I can get along with this)? Attached is my "before" pic... Thanks, Scott

I'm sure Hunter had several 'standard' bases for their cradles. Our 28.5 cradle had two forward pads which fit into the pipe supports and have an adjustment threaded handle that raises and lowers the pads. The rear two supports had pins to position a yoke shaped support with carpet padded wood inserts that fit the aft section of the hull. All that sail, wouldn't it be easier to buy five jack stands and position them as you need them?

Oil Canning

I had an "oil canning" issue on the starboard aft pad on the cradle. It was in an area that had the most blister per foot region on the boat. I added a stand to share the compression load while the boat was on the cradle. One extra stand can also be used while working under the pad area.
