Good morning, I have an 1986 Hunter 28.5 and am taking her to the Glades Boat yard this Wednesday 4/3 to haul and do bottom job. I'm trying to figure out where the slings go.

I've visited the Glades many times with friends and realize the staff is very knowledgeable but would at least like to have a clue where these points are, anyone who has done this and could give me reference points, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Peter

Hi Peter, most, if not all Hunter boats, had "sling" decals stuck to the hull, just beneath the toe rail. Yours should be there, too. You may have to bend down to see them.

Seems like those sling points are always usually almost all the time under bulkheads.

I have had 2 Hunter 28.5s. an 85 and an 89, neither had "Sling stickers"(one was in Minnesota and got hauled every year). I always aligned the slings with the bulkheads by the companionway (to help support the motor weight) and one just in front of the Keel (About where the front bulkhead is.) FYI my current 28.5 is in Charlot harbor!!

I have no such marking on my 28.5. But you will be safe if you have the sling on or just aft of the traveler sill and the front will pretty much stop when it reached the beginning of the keel.

Check the condition of your water line the hulls and the higher up bow thru hulls for the water tank and the anchor locker - the rule plastic gets brittle, break and you end up scooping water on a heal. The bilge water pump (midship) exit is another rule thruhull to inspect fo brittleness.
