I intend to move my Ericson 27 with a professional hauler. Their instructions to prepare for the move indicate tighten the bolts holding the keel ballast. I guess it could drop during the haul. I don't know if I have access to any bolts holding the ballast to the hull. Does anyone have experience in this area?

Access

Any keel bolts will be accessible at the bottom of the bilge. I would think that when the boat is loaded, a substantial part of its weight will be resting on the keel.

I don't think E27's have keel bolts. I think the keel is a continuation of the hull.

Keel bolts

Bob, There isn't any keel bolts in the Ericson 27. The two halfs of the boat enclose the 2900 lb lead keel. There are lift points fore and aft of the keel marked on the toe rail to allow for a pair of slings to lift the boat. Because the heel is hollow all the way to the bottom of the keel for the aft 1/3,it is important to never support the keel there, just mid point forward. Good luck with your move. Doug
