Hello every one. I have really been thinking about buying a hunter 22. This boat comes with a cradle. I have never had to deal with haul in/out or storage before because both my current boats have trailers and fit in my yard. I have thought about mounting the cradle to one of the other boats trailers, but I think they may be too small. (they are for a hobie 18, and a snipe, small light boats) I was wondering how much hoisting/hauling and winter storage costs. I called a couple marinas in my area but they were not helpful, they gave me prices in broad ranges and asked questions I really can't answer. Would you store this boat mast up or down? Thank you every one for our help!

I am not going to be able to help you with any specific answers and am only responding because no one else has . First you will probably get a lot more answers to this if you go to the larger boat section of these forums . Most of us who own smaller boats do so to avoid paying someone to do these things we can do our selves. I think costs will vary greatly by region . Call lighthouse landing at kentucky lake and ask them these questions . This should give you some rough idea . I am betting that the cost of a trailer would be paid for in just a few seasons . Not to mention the ability of going to different places , Good luck Mike

I would assume that

the cost will vary a great deal depending on where you are. My cost for the slip is $685 which covers April through Oct. Included is the haul in/out cost. The marina does a lot of work for boats from other marinas since it has the largest set of cranes around the area. The cost is $200 for small boat - what he asks for larger boats I don't know. Cost for winter storage is $200. Cost for raising mast is $200. BTW - I'd keep the mast up if stored at the yard.

Cost will depend almost entirely on where you are. Bar Harbor, Maine, is probably going to cost you a bit (OK, a lot) more than, say, Brownsville, Texas. What I do to save a buck is slip the boat during the summer - $7.50 per foot per month - and store it for winter, not at a marine storage facility, but at an RV storage yard. Anything with the word "marine" in it costs way too much. My RV park gets $55 per month and is one mile from the water. Good luck.

Mike hits the nail on the head:

"I am betting that the cost of a trailer would be paid for in just a few seasons" My 23 comes home to the driveway for the winter. This is always the best option when available. You can keep an eye on it, and its always right there when you want to work on it.

MAN!! Winter storage for my 22' Hunter costs $1500 for the winter and the one year I had a slip it was $130.00 a foot for 6 months. Back on the mooring now.
