Hello everyone,
I own Vega 624. This boat is fitted with a Hatz
diesel motor that has been marinised by BMW. The problem I have is
that after the motor is started it takes about 10 min before the
charge light goes out. During use the charge light comes on now and
again. I expected this to be a problem with a fan belt driving the
alternator. However, not knowing anything about marine engines, it
turns out that the alternator is built into the block and is probably
driven directly via a cog wheel from the fly wheel. There is
therefore no chance of slip. The voltage across the battery is 14.5V
and this does not change whether the charge light is on or off. Could
this be a rectifier problem or is it most likely in the alternator?
Many thanks for any help you can give me.
Martin Chaplin.
