Would anyone be so kinds as to provide me with the specs./measurements for the topside forward hatch on my Hunter 25, 1976. I need to replace the homemade one the previous owner constructed. Not a bad job however not very streamline looking. In addition, does anyone have advice on where to buy a good hatch, possibly Bomar? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sam

Hatches

I have no idea what the measurements are for your hatch, but Pompanette does sell a lot of seconds and they are about half the regular cost. Sailnet is the cheapest I have found for ports, and they are having a coupon sale till the 15th, I think the coupon title is spring rush, but I am not sure.

Hatch Cover Specs

Sam, I have a '77 H25. Does your hatch fit down over a raised lip on the deck? If so it's the sameas mine. The boat is on the hard right now but I could probably get a measurement in the next few days if u are not in a hurry. Craig S/V WindToy 1977 H25

Lewmar

I installed a Lewmar Ocean 60 hatch on my '81 H25. It is pricey, ($450), but looks great & will last forever. If you plan on keeping your boat I highly recommend it. The cheesy Grey Marine/Bomar hatches are fragile and highly susceptible to UV damage. The Lewmar is tough as they come. Buy the model with the outward turned flanges and it will bolt right onto the hatch opening with no modifications. Randall

Made it out of wood

I made one for Diana out of wood. The boat came with a poorly-made teak one which was only good for keeping rain out at the dock. After seeing a very nice wooden one on a neighbor's Ericson 25, I bought translucent white 1/2" Plexiglass and made a trapezoidal frame out of mahogany. It wasn't the easiest thing I ever made but now with about 3 coats of varnish on it already it looks terrific. Being 27" wide, the hatch has ribs under it so you can stand on it. When I get around to it I will fit a stainless-steel Vetus UFO vent to the top of it. The white-plastic-and-varnished-mahogany combination is getting to be a decor theme to this boat. I've said this before and will say it again-- if I can get my hands on an original ('Mk 1') H-25/H27 fibreglass foredeck hatch cover I will make a mould from it and then they'll be available to everyone. The guy who lends me his hatch in good conditions gets a new one for free! :) JC 2 cherubiniyachts@aol.com

Make it out of wood.

Thanks JCII, I think it's a great advantage conversing with the son of the designer of my boat, what a great source! However, my current hatch was made out of wood (pretty good job) but it looks too "clunky" for the boat. In my opinion, 76 H25's profile needs a more streamline hatch that compliments the looks of this pretty boat. Thanks again, Sam
