Art

Ahoy there: I have just completed refinishing all the exterior teak on my 1984 C-22. The only piece that I have not done is the companionway threshhold. The reason for this is I can not tell how it is attached. All the other teak around the companion way ws screwed on and sealed with silacone. However, this bottom piece has 3 screws in it and after removing them I can not get it off. My threshold is cracked nd I want to repare this. One thing I have noticed is that there seems to be wooden plugs in the front of this piece. I can feel inside the boat and can not find the other end of any fastners. Does anyone have a clue as to how to get this off. I would pry it off if I knoew that it was only the sealent holding it in place. I don't know for sure. HELP!!!! Art <)))>< P.S. I stripped the teak with a TSP solution, sanded as best I could (20 year 0ld teak) and finnished with Cetol. Looks awesome.

plugs over the screws

look for teak plugs on the topside and the front side of the threshhold. Use a small straight screw driver to pop them out.

New Threshold

Hello Art, This piece of wood is very difficult to remove. The screw heads are covered by a plug and there are at least five of them. My threshold came off in 4-5 different pieces. A new one from CD would cost $50.00, so I made my own and like it better than the original as it can be used, with a cushion, as a seat. You can see it at the included link. Click on Bimini. I made mine from a piece of mahogany off of an old award plaque. Let me know if you want more information. ljp Saint Benedict, #14686
