I have a H30 1975 vintage and would like to install a 17x17 hatch between the companion way and the mast. I have a swing keel on this boat and am concerned about the strength of the cabin top after installing the hatch because the cable that raises the keel is there also. There is room between the cable and the mast. about three feet. Any suggestions? Barry

It should work with reinforcing Ribs

The new hatches are quite strong. If I were to do it, I would fiberglass some stiffeners on either the top, bottom or both. With the port work on our boat we noticed along with the fiberglass thickness, the liner and hull were not well fastened, so you may actually strengthen the cabin top. Adding handrails to the stiffening ribs could add utility to the necessity. Bill

Swing Keel?

Barry, I have a 76 h30 with a shoal draft keel (4'). The center of the keel looks like it was made for a swing keel. I'd like to know more about your keel arangement, and how it sails. E-mail me at hallock@interconnect.net. Thanks Royce
