Dear Victor,I have seen Vegas in Holland with a plastic hatchboard, I have one
myself but it does not look pretty.

Maybe is a better idea to make 3 hatchboard out of thick slitghly
colored plactis material.

Acrylics would not be too suitable. Has anybody an idea what would be a
suitable plastic material?

Henk,

A better material to use for your hatchboards would be Lexane.
Lexane is the brand name and the material type is polycarbonate.
They can provide this type of material in smoke (bronze) clear and
"opaal" which is a non transparent white.
A supplier in Holland is Vink in Didam

I will send the specs to your home email address.

Hi All

We have made some in the UK from Polycarbonate (bronze) Lexican. They look very nice but you will have to make it exact for your own washboards as the sizes differ slightly. Just buy a piece big enough and then cut with a fine jigsaw, you'll be pleased with the results.

I replaced the hatch boards this spring with new ones made out of white oak for the lower, and a simple morticed oak frame with smaller lexan window in the upper.

They seem fairly sturdy, but we'll see in a few years how they hold up.
