What system do others use when sailing in heavy rain to allow entrance to the cabin but keeps the rain out Putting the hatch slides in is not what I am looking for. Some heavy weather dodger that works while underway in heavy weather. Someone must have come up with a clever tarp velcroed or tied on that is easy to duck under but keeps the cabin reasonably dry. Thanks for any suggestions you may have. George

I think you will find that most folks with a dodger leave it up. They are all pretty "heavy weather" capable. They make sailing to windward more fun too as they keep the vast majority of the wind out of the cockpit.

I like my Lexan doors
I have doors on my '86 H31 that are really convenient. Also have a dodger. Not much rain gets inside. You may also look in this sites chandlery, canvas shop, companionway and slider covers. A bimini would also be good but are pricey.

Dodger on a 240 not do-able
I don't think a dodger is do-able on a 240. The boom is too low and the sheets are very close to the companionway. We've used tarps over the boom for anchoring when it's raining etc. With the sails up and making way I think you'll have to get wet. Ken

We found ourselves in the same situation, even when we had the hatch closed. A small amount of water would pool on top of the slider and eventually trickle in. Many on this website suggested using the camping cover that can be purchased through the chandlery. I didn't want to do that because of the required metal snaps {and because my wife says I'm cheap}. So we bought a small {4 x 6, I think} heavy vinyl tarp {car top material} that was scrap from a local supplier for $10 with the gromets installed. We put a lifejacket under it to give it slope and bunge it down. So far, still dry. Good luck.
