Just after receiving my H380, we had a series of problems with the hatch cover. The resulting problem was long, somewhat deep scratches. On the 3rd hatch cover, the tech managed to polish out the scratches. Unfortunately, I was not around to watch the procedure, and the tech is no longer available to ask. Do any of you esteemed people have experience with polishing out scratches in the material used for hatch covers (and possibly port windows)? I'm curious as to the polish or related material used. -David S/V Mollie Jean

hatch scratch removal

3m make a product called "FINESIT"(sp.)It is great for removing fine scratches in hatchs. It is basical used in the auto paint market but is avaible at West Marine (very expensive $38. dollars a guart)You may want to try a local auto body supply shop or 3m distributer.I used it on my port and hatches with good results, use apply it like a wax or compound by hand or with a electric buffer.

Novus

There is a product called Novus that comes in three progressive grades of grit that will remove scratches and mars from plex. It has worked well for me and is pretty reasonably priced.

no worries

Novus is made for acrylic and lexan polycarbonate. The effect of "crazing" that you are describing can be caused by alcohol or ammonia in cleaners, and also by UV damage.
