i have a hunter 40.5 and would like to be able to close and lock the hatches from the outside instead of doing it from inside and having to remove screens as well. does anyone know of any retrofits that might work--could the current locking set up be removed and replaced without replacing the whole hatch?

more troubles likely then it is worth

By placing a lock on the outside of each hatch you introduce new challenges for maintenance and other possible water entry points. Even though it might be convenient for closing and openning from topside.... the downside on maintenance would keep me from doing it... just my thoughts.

...and whatever you might install would have to be a flush mount. Anything like a clasp or small padlock is going to get hit by every leg that passes it.
