My family and I will be sailing our new Cat 310 in Barnegat Bay NJ this summer and I was wondering if anyone has experience with hatch-mounted air conditioning units. Do they work? Is it worth the investement or will fans do just fine? What brand/size do you recommend? Thanks! Kurt

Carry On

Kurt, I use a carry on for my C-38 I think it's 5k btu's and it works great. I'm on Lake Michigan and we only need it for 2 or 3 weeks a year..but when you need it you really need IT! I through it on for all vac's and for over nites during the summer the rest of the time it's in the dock box. They are made very well and will keep it ok in the sun but my boat is a little large for it to get it cold in the direct sunlite. As soon as the sun drops it get it very cool inside and in general we put it on low while sleeping. They seem to be getting a bit salty for a new one but are worth it when you need it:).. if you can find one used they hold their value at 350 to 450, but around here they are gone very quickly if your not right there when the guy say he wants to sell. Mike
