I just read an article that a deal is being worked out, after Hunter's parent company filed for Chapter 11 over a month ago.

This is great news and hopefully the new owners will invest to make Hunter Marine a bigger and stronger company. :)

(Hunter....can you please ship my new boat now.)

Does this mean it will still be another month before they start shipping again.

Guys, give them time as chpater 11 is not a piece of cake. I like the fact that they have been up front what happenned and when deals are being worked out, not until that is concrete, nothing much more to say. Yes the name Hunter will remain. Please give them time. Orders of over 60 boats in house and the fact they are hiring is a sign of coming out on top.

Update.

Hunter has now over 75 orders with some models sold out thru September. In July, they will come out of chapter 11 and the ownership will be designated. Hunter name will remain with everyonel in place. They will be stronger than before.

Has anyone heard or read any updates? I guess things have been resolved or a new owner has stepped up to the plate.

If all goes well, our boat is leaving Florida today.

I don't think so yet. There was lots of interest though, so the future should be secure. My understanding is that they did get some bridge financing that will tide them over through this. I'm sure Phil will get a heads up when they are prepared to go public with the details and he'll post something to let us know.

The economy is pretty weak, if we are honest with ourselves. No sailboat is a nessessaty. Taxes on the upper classes, the people that order new larger sailboats, are going up. Way up, many economists say. In this economy, investing in a sailboat company, with obamacare taxes looming? Going into an election cycle, most is painted on the 5:30 news, a positive outlook for the future. I wanted a big sailboat, 14' beam, two helms, whole 9 yards, but seeing what is the real road ahead, I went with plan B, which was an older sailboat I could weather the storm in. I hope Hunter comes out of this, I hope we all do.

sorry to disagree, but for some of us who (as a result of the idiots in DC, all of them) live aboard our sail boats...they are a necessity....and in the long run a good deal for many...

Beats being homeless by a large degree...and I don't have to have a nanny and a handout from the Gov't.

So for me and my wife, it IS a necessity

Let's keep in mind, my question was about the Status of Hunter Marine. Let's not make this personal.

Still see a few new sailboats showing up in the marinas around Chicago. Don't think the industry is dead yet.

" The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey approved the sale of the operating assets of Hunter Marine Corp. late Tuesday night and “selected assets” of Mainship Corp. and the Luhrs Corp. to Marlow Acquisitions LLC, according to a letter the company sent Wednesday to Hunter dealers.

The letter was sent to Soundings Trade Only by Hunter president and chief restructuring officer John Peterson, who said he has spent the last two days in court trying to tie up the deal.
“Even the judge said he was impressed by the expediency with which this whole thing has been handled,” Peterson told Soundings Trade Only.
Marlow Acquisitions is affiliated with Marlow Yachts, the letter sent to dealers said.
“I have spent numerous hours with Mr. David Marlow, principal of Marlow Yachts, and I can assure you that he is elated with the opportunity to work with Hunter Marine Corporation,” Peterson wrote in the letter.
“Mr. Marlow will be writing directly over the next few days, so I do not want to go into more details at this point other than to state that he enthusiastically believes in boating as a recreation lifestyle; he has a keen focus on new boats as the driving force to accomplish increased sales; and has a 40-year history of profitable boat building,” the letter stated.
Peterson said he anticipates a quick closing by the end of the month.
”Further communication will be forthcoming. ‘Life ‘does indeed’ begin at 40!’ ” the letter said."

Good Luck Hunter and Happy 40th anniversary.

I believe I meant no new sailboat. At times, a boat comes with a luxury tax. Is the tax not assessed if one uses the boat as a residence?

I wish we lived on a boat, but my wife wants roots ( and weeds to mow). I would trade 7 acres for a marina slip in a heartbeat. Someday

Under Chapter 11, Hunter could only do so much. It is true about the sale but the sale has to be completed. It will be good as I think it wil give an infusion and John Peterson has been straight forward with everyone when it happenned.

As for the one comment Hunter had to take the action, Let me say it was a good thing so they would emerge strronger. what many did not know, Hunter was part of a coporation who were loosing money and eventually the power side closed down but was able to sustain itself from the continuing profits from Hunter. In a sense it was done to protect Hunter Marine and those who intiated this should be commended to include most importantly, John Pterson.

An H33 moved into my slip this spring. Sweet yacht! A replacement for a fire loss, when he tried to pull his Catalina 30 from the slip last fall.

Enjoy many happy and safe years with your new sailboat.
