I am considering buying the "Boomkicker" that is sold on the HOW chandlery. There are no reviews written on it, so I am asking for any opinions on this product. I called the manufacturer, who says that it is a very quick disconnect when stepping the mast (my boat lives on a trailer). I would like to be able to get rid of the topping lift, and this seems like the way to go. Is it really worth the money, or should I spend my limited sailboat funds on something else? I already have a boom vang to use in conjunction with the boomkicker, so the investment would only include the price of the boomkicker itself. Thanks!

Had one on my H260

I was a real treat, got rid of the topping lift. Though at times I wish I had it on, like when flaking the sail. Topping lift let me lean on the boom for support, where the boom kicker will not. If memory hasn't completely left me I was able to tighten the leach real hard by not having the topping lift. Jim S/V Java

Wouldn't be without mine. The manufacturer has a 1-800 number and they're really good to deal with if you have any questions.

Boomkickers are Great

I put a Boomkicker on the H-240 I bought (used) this spring. It is great and allowed the removal of the topping lift so I can easily have my second reef lead. I sail alone mostly and I use the second reef often. I would think everyone would shift to a Boomkicker. The Boomkicker company if very helpful and also took the measurements I used on the H-240 which they can pass on to the next 240 owner if they want it.

I had a boomkicker on my 240

and liked it alot. I have a 260 now and installed a rigid vang from Garhauer. I like the garhauer a little better, I feel that it is higher quality than the kicker and it has more tension. It comes with its own blocks and rigging that is 6 to 1 instead of 4 to 1 for the original vang. It also has the last block on the bottom so you can run it into the cockpit if you choose. I did this and it makes fine tuning the vang a snap. Price is about the same, also.

Boomkicker on H216

I purchased my H216 with a boomkicker and it has worked out well. Reefing the sail and taking the sail down is much easier, especially if you have to do it alone.

Jim' first give that wonderful wife a hug from me. You all should know that Jim and I have wonderful wifes and I am still trying to figure how we conned them into marrying us. Jim is correct about a boom kicker as he had one. Jim, James did say he saw you. Take care of him or 20,000 wet noodles to you.
