Has anyone seen this bottom paint?

3 years ago, when I tried to strip the bottom, I came on a layer of red bottom paint. Someone at the yard said it was from Sears and was *rubber* based! Has anyone encountered it? And what is the best way to strip it? It loaded up sandpaper immediately. Peel n Strip wouldn't take it off. I could have softened it with the PnS stripper and washed it off, but the yard (and the EPA) frowns on that. What's a guy to do? Thanks to all.

Have not seen it.

From your description I hope I never do! :) But you might strip it with a paint scraper. You will need at least two, one wide and one narrow, and lots of replaceable blades. Knock the corners off the blades with a file or Dremel. This will prevent inadvertent gouging. Plastic dropcloths will catch the peelings so it can be properly disposed of. Finish up with a vacuum orbital sander. I took several layers of old bottom paint off my H37C with a scraper. Right down to bare gelcoat and then six coats of barrier coat, Interlux 2000E. Let us know what works.
