Has anyone seen this before?

Hello again,

I have shaft out and now getting parts needed to put back together. So who has info on the cutlass bearing flange and variable pitch prop where the shaft enters the boat here is my set up http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefanquebec/

I would like help to know if this set up is original, is it in decent shape, and is the flange supposed to be in 2 pieces?

I unscrewed the two bolts that hold the flange and the first part of the flange (in picture 2012-06-20_18-07-22_813)came off, in middle of flange part that came off it seems like it has a black rubber sleeve with a white nylon bushing attached to it, I think is this right?

And the 2 bolts that are in the flange do not screw into the hull of the boat, they just screw into the second part of the flange which I can not get out of the boat, should I be able to get this second part of the flange out of the boat somehow?

The second part of the flange which seems stuck to the hull of the boat I can move right and left about 3mm each way, I see that there is a little chunk of hull missing in a spot right behind the flange when I removed the caulking, hope you can see in the pictures (guess someone repaired this before) seems like someone used some type of putty to repair the chunk missing, should I leave this alone and just re-caulk with some 3m 5200 or something like that and put back together the way it is?

One other thing, my rubber hose that connects the stern bearing unit (stuffing box) to the fiberglass shaft hole where the shaft comes in from outside the boat underneath the cockpit floor, the rubber hose I have is 5 inches long, is this the right length, because my local store has packing (stuffing) box hose in a length of 4 inches only, want to know if I should order a longer length from out of Country to match up what I had installed, didn't know if one I had installed was the right one?

Hope this is not asking too much.

Hi Stephan, your photos look just like my set up but the damage to the
fibreglass where the flange connects to the hull looks like it needs a
repair. This housing (the bit attached to the boat) was solid on my
boat and the other bits all bolted to it. I re-used the rubber bung
but replaced the nylon bearing (I actually used some stuff called
vesconite) and had a new bush housing made from bronze.

Hello John, Would you tell me what part number the new bush housing
you installed, do you think I should do same for mine (does mine look like yours did or is?

So I will make solid the fiberglass where there are issues behind the flange.

Thank you for your info,

Stephan

Hi Stephan, I only had a new bush housing made because the engineering
firm had a bit of bronze laying about and they said it would be easier
for me if they fitted the new nylon bush in a new housing. The old
one was fine. Yours will probably be ok because it is not subject to
a lot of wear. Your set up is just like mine.
Hope it goes ok - where are you? UK?
