If so, costs, satisfaction and name of company would be appreciated. Terry

Peggie, do you have a suggestion?

Who would you recommend for a replacement holding tank? Thanks. Terry

Yes...a Lectra/San instead

The Lectra/San is a CG certified Type I MSD that treats a flush at a time and discharges it overboard legally in all waters except those specifically designated "no discharge"...which makes it legal for use in all coastal waters on the west coast north of Santa Barbara CA. The discharge is actually cleaner than that from most sewage treatment plants, which is where holding tank contents end up. Many people here have installed it and love it. If you're unfamiliar with the Lectra/San, you can read all about it here: http://www.raritaneng.com/products/waste_treatment/lectrasan.html Why store waste aboard if you don't have to...AND can send it overboard with no negative environmental impact?

Peggie, thank you for your suggestion...

I'll certainly look into it. In the mean time who would you recommend for a standard plastic tank replacement? One skipper recommended a roto molded Ronco tank as opposed to a welded plastic tank. Terry

Ronco Plastics is definitely the best source...

IF they have a mold that will fit your space or any other available space. They have more than 400 to choose from, including over 100 non-rectangular...so the only real question is whether you're determined to find an exact replacement or are willing to think "outside the box." If so, and if forced to go with a custom welded tank, CC Tech is your best source: http://www.gocctech.com/marine/boat-tank.htm But fwiw, you can buy a Lectra/San for not much more than the price of a custom welded tank.

If you go with metal tank, stick with manufacturer

We have a 1997 P42. We are going to replace the holding tank this winter because the hose connections have rusted down to where almost nothing is left for the tank discharge hose to attach to. I ordered a replacement tank from Ezell Industries, Inc., the company that made the original tank. The aluminum tanks are made thicker now, .090 then and .120 now, so it should last longer, although 8 years isn't too bad. Tank cost $299 plus shipping of $33. Phone number is 850-578-2558 and ask for Linda Wiles. Ezell is located in Fla. There three versions of a holding tank made for the P42. Linda will fax you a diagram and you need to compare it to your tank to confirm size and shape.

Ronco Plastics has quoted me $275 USD...

for a replacement tank. Seems about right to me. They must have a mold for our model. I'm still looking at other alternatives. Terry P.S. Thanks for your advice.

8 years is even shorter than the average

lifespan of aluminum holding tanks, which is only about 10 years. A good quality plastic tank will last as long as your boat hull will if you don't do anything to damage it...and for less money! Why would you EVER want to do this job again? Metal is ok for fuel and water--though plastic is better for water too...but plastic is the only recommended material for waste holding.
