Hi I am Garth Gregory - A few years back I made 2 x stern cleats for a friend for his 440 for the same reason - I also tapped the holes to just short of the surface - to strengthen the whole fitting - he had a cleat ripped out of the boat in a swell surge - A lot of unnecessary work - as I later found my Beneteau 473 has a much bigger ( higher ) cleat , with the same hole centers as the 440 , so just buy a 473 cleat or use a thinner quarter rope - the strengths of these new ropes are amazing - thinner ropes are easier to handle and stow and cheaper to buy .
