I have a 1977 Cherbubini Hunter 30 and need to replaced the fixed windows in the cabin. I am not refering to the greymar opening ports, those are easy to find. I am referring to the fixed trapzoidal shaped windows. My boat is four hours away and I don't have the dimensions. Does anyone know what the dimensions are and where I can find replacement windows? Thanks

Just got mine yesterday

I have a 78 H30 that I have replaced the opening ports with the NFM Tri-Matrix ports as shown in David's link. They went in very easily and look great. I just received the fixed ports yesterday from Bomon, a custom window mfr. in Quebec. You can get exact replacements from Mark's Plastics in CA, for about $220 each (see archives for Mark's phone number). The Bomon ports are aluminum frames with tinted lexan. They can also make them with tempered glass, but there is just enough curvature on the H30 cabin sides to prevent using glass. These windows were only $20 or so more than the plastic framed replacements. Both companies make them to order and delivery was estimated at 8 weeks for both when I ordered (actual delivery from Bomon was about 9 weeks). I am anxious to get these babies installed. They look great and seem much more robust than the plastic framed originals. If you wanted to get a quick quote from Bomon, you could reference my name and they can give you price/delivery. The attached drawing is the cutout size on my boat. You will have to verify all dimensions on your boat, especially the cabin thickness. Outstanding

Thanks Brett! Sounds like you nailed the target for me. I will call them and referrence you. Ironicaly, I just moved my boat out of Stingray last weekend. I am now at the bridge street marina in Urbanna all the way at the end.I'll keep my eyes open for you. Let me know how the instalation goes. What are you going to bed it with? Dave

Window Bedding

The fixed ports came with what looks like a neoprene foam and butyl rubber gasket. I have some additional butyl rubber tape if I need it. I'm sure Bomon will want you to to verify all of the dimensions of your cutouts. They wanted each side checked to be sure. What prompted the move to Urbanna? Better restaurant selection? We prefer being at the mouth of the river, especially this time of year when the winds are fluky.

Urbanna

We live in Lynchburg. Urbanna cuts an hour of the round trip making it more viable for use to come down here for the weekend. Also, we wanted to be in a small town that we could walk around in from the boat. I was also looking to save some money on the slip fee. Stingray is nice, the prices are good, and the proximity to the bay is outstanding. Maybe some day we'll move back. Thanks for the 411 about the bedding. I understand they will want me to confirm, but due to my schedule and didstance to the boat, it could be some time before I get back there which would push the window replacement probably into next season when you consider turnaround time on the order. Installation Update

I got a chance to head down for the weekend, do some sailing and install the new fixed ports. After a great sail on Saturday, decided to go for it. It is a point of no return once you start removing the old ports. The plastic frame is very brittle, and coupled with an anxious installer, the old ones did not come entirely intact. The openings were a little too small in a couple places, due to the uneven cutouts. About 10 minutes with a grinder, cutting and checking, and they fit right in. I would not have wanted the ports made any smaller. I had the first one temporarily installed Saturday night. I fit the second one on Sunday, then removed both to seal the openings with epoxy. Once the epoxy set, I re-installed the ports, tightened everything down, and performed the hose test. Everything was nice and dry. They look so much better, the boat looks 15 years newer. Unfortunately, I didn't remember to get a picture of the finished product. I will post one after our next visit.

Windows

Thanks Brett. So you just used butyl gasket for bedding? I will be placing me order ASAP. I am also going to try and find the opening ports to replace at the same time. I am excited about this. BTW, a common problem as you probably know on our boats is a rotting mast step. Schroeder Yacht systems just re-did mine and did a terrific job for a reasonable price. They can even move the boat over from Stingray for you for $50. Thanks for the info. I am looking forward to this project and getting my boat closer to pristine condition. Have you replaced the opening ports on your boat? Dave

Gasket, and Opening Ports

The gasket came with the ports and looks like some material I purchased from McMaster-Carr, that was Butyl Coated PVC Foam Sealing Tape. The opening ports I used were the Tri-Matrix ports from Newfound Metals. David linked to an installation of them in Reply #1. My installation actually went much easier, because my ports had no drainage grooves to fill in. There is a current post Re:H37C ports where ireplied in some detail. If I had everything together, I probably could have put all of the ports, opening and fixed in a very busy, sweaty, itchy weekend. As it was, we mixed some sailing in there and spread it over about 4 days. Thanks for the info on the mast step, but I already had this repair done about 5 years ago. I had it done at Deagle's in Deltaville. The guy who did the work there, Frank, is the yard supervisor at Schroeder's. Great fiberglass guy. I'm sure he was involved in your repair as well. If you need any further info, email me through the owner's directory here.
