Has anyone capsized an H23? If so, what were the circumstances? How did you recover?

A KNOCK DOWN IS MORE COMMON THAN A ...

capsize, but still rare. Any sail boat caught in the right conditions can be knocked down or capsized. I think your boat has 800 pounds of ballast, which helps keep it upright in most all conditions. You want to avoid taking larger waves abeam, which increases the chance of a knock down or capsize. Purchase a Chapmans book on boating from most any marine store. Very good reference source for general safe boating information. Good luck. Terry

No but ...

No but I have put the leeward window in the same horizontal plane as the water. Not quite a knockdown because the water was still beneath the window (port). By letting out the mainsheet, I de-powered the main to reduce the heel angle and just kept going. There was no point in using the rudder to head up into the wind---another way to de-power the sails---because it too was horizontal.
