Hi Eian, how are you doing in Sydney these days?

Unfamiliar with Axiom, but like our old Garmin 178C, if Axiom has an output source (Our 178C has a blue wire that output course data} that wire connects to the input wire of the autopilot head, in our case a ST6000. Wrote an article about it many years ago here: Hunter 42 Owner Modifications and Upgrades

Our autopilot uses a different NMEA version than the Garmin. Dead on staying true to course, but a very slow reaction time when changing course. What I do is manually set the new course rather than rely on the systems to sort it all out. One way communications only between the Garmin and 6000 head. The Garmin sends course data to the 6000. The 6000 has no way to send data to the Garmin. Completed this install in 2005 and have used it ever since cruising thousands of miles all over PNW waters. Hope this helps.

Layers of issues when trying to connect an AP to a display be it Raymarine or others.

You may get it to talk to each other, but you may find that the data stream is not fully compatible.

Raymarine states.
NETWORKING
Ethernet1 x 10/100 Mbits/ Network (RayNet)
NMEA0183Requires suitable adaptor to NMEA2000 network
NMEA20001 x NMEA2000 port (DeviceNet microC)
SeaTalkNGRequires A06045 DeviceNet female (F) adapter cable - 400mm
USB1 x USB microB rear - 0.5A charging, external storage device or RCR-SD/USB Accessory (A80440))
Wi-FiWiFi - 802.11 b / g / n
BlueToothBluetooth 4.0 + Low Energy + Power Class 1.5
[Available in future Lighthouse 3 software update]
Networking specifications apply to all Axiom models

Your AP is using a NMEA0183 data format.

Some of the manufactures confused the data stream to make the system proprietary. Not sure if that is the case with your AP and the Axiom you intend to use. You would need to test it. To do that you will need to connect the AP to a "suitable" NMEA2000 adaptor. Then connect the adaptor to the Seatalkng network where you have your Axiom and cross your fingers.

If it works tip a beer for me.

The only autopilot that can be controlled by the Axiom are the Evolution series. I am not aware of a hack to workaround that.

That said, other autopilots should still be able to interface with the Axiom chartplotter application and use functions such as the Advance Waypoint and Restart XTE.
