Hey all, I'm back with another question as I scramble to get the boat ready for spring. I was working on the rigging today and noticed this extra block on the mast for the job halyard. When I had the boat out last year it seemed like when I would unfurl the jib I had trouble getting a good shape and it was always on the life lines. It seems like this block would prevent me from getting the jib all the way up. Does anyone else have a Unit 00 that may be able to shed some light on this? As always, thank you very much for your help

I spoke with Dan this morning. The jib halyard is run thru a lower block attached below the turning block for the jib halyard to enter the mast and go down. This is to prevent what is called halyard wrap if the long line from a furling jib starts to wrap around the sail and even damage a forestay. Once this happened on a new Hunter 27 years ago and I had to make an emergency trip out of state to correct this. I advised the owner what he did wrong and corrected the situation before the mast would have fallen. He paid for the repairs as it was not warranty which he advised he would.

I told Dan to remove the line from that turning block, raise the sail higher while tying the foot down with a long line on the bottom as it does two things, get the sail off the bow rail and secondly it is higher to catch more wind. He will advise back as to what he does and how that works once done.
