My Harken Mark IV unit 1 lower drum has developed a bad squeak when rotating which I would like to fix. All I have been able to find for maintenance is to wash the unit with soap and water but this doesn’t seem to help. Is there a way to thoroughly flush the bearings on these units?

Thanks
Tim

On my Selden Furlex there are 2 notches on both the upper and lower portions of the furler. Designed to squeeze furler grease into them. Squeeze some in one, spin the unit and repeat. Done.
If I remember correctly on your Harken there should be a grease port as well. Not sure if it was grease or oil for your furler, but there should be “holes” to insert either into both upper and lower swivels.
Check the shaft, what looks like bolts, one may possibly be a grease port. It may simply be crusted over with dried grease and look like an allen head bolt.
I hope this helps.
Post a photo if you can.

Just like Harken directs. The drum bearings are open. They are (depending on age) Delrin and or Torlon. Bearings. A little dish soap and a strong spray of water will wash out the dirt and make them rotate like new. No lubricant needed.
