Hard water deposits

I just looked into the aluminum water tanks on my 10 yr old liveaboard boat and saw lots of calcium deposits. Is there a product I can put into the tank to disolve the deposits like CLR or will that contaminate the tank for potable water storage use? Of course I would flush them out thouroghly after the CLR or similar product is used. I would like to clean them up inside if possible. Thanks for reading, Brian

I don't have an easy way to clean out the tanks. I was installing tank level sensors when I looked inside and saw the deposits. Will vinegar really dissolve the deposits? Does it need to be any special type of vinegar? Brian
