Here's wishing all sailors(but especially Cherubini owners :)) a safe, happy, and healthy 2003. For us snowbound northerners this can be a tough part of the season. I shoveled snow off the cover on Monday. Got inside to find a couple of buckets of water in the bilge(keel-stepped). Bailed her out and added another gallon of anti-freeze. Temp got up to 50 but raining too much to work. Wanted to run an extension cord to recharge the batteries but too much snow to drag the cord through. Did manage to create a pattern for making a larger bow roller. Tested the fit of my new "fence rail" instrument pod on the helm. On the other hand there are projects that I can do at home, like the bow roller. And I have the hatchboards in the basement. Two coats of varnish, only four to go. There will be some weekends in January and February where I will be able to charge the batteries. Then start installing the Link 2000 and new starter battery. The starter and alternator are at the shop for commutator cleaning and new brushes. Can reinstall those before March. Meanwhile I have been building fires and reading. Finished both of Linda Greenlaw's books(The Lobster Chronicles and The Hungry Ocean). You will remember her from "The Perfect Storm". Only a couple of weeks until the big Cleveland boat show. Might work for my marina there, a Hunter, Hanse, and Tartan dealer. So all is not lost on the North Coast. We'll be ready to splash in about fourteen weeks. Hope you are.

Coming west next summer.

We are leaving Mentor for Columbus, Ed, and are planning to move Lady Lillie west after a cruise to Long Point and beyond in June. Sandusky Harbor is our probable new marina. But we will certainly be close enough to meet at last! David Lady Lillie

Cabin fever

Happy New Years Fellow Cherubs! Like Ed, I had to visit the boat last Sunday. Cleaned off a little snow, emptied the bilge, and did a little cockpit sailing (sat in the cockpit and dreamed of raising sails). I also have lots of winter projects underway, wont bore you with the details. Hope to see some of you at the Atlantic City Show next weekend. (we'll be there Saturday). Don B

And a Happy New Year to you Ed

Hey Ed, you didn't happen to clean off Baroque too? Dave, we would be happy to meet you also. Maybe we can have the 27 foot Cherubini challenge cup races? Andy

To all of you too..We are lucky enough to be able to sail most of the year..Wife and I were out on MYST just a couple of days ago..Had a nice quiet sail, unlike a week ago Sunday when it was blowing stink, and My Ex-Friend Mike and I went out in 30 knts to see how she'd act..BTW, staysail, 4 knots at times...Not too bad... Best of the New Yr to you all.. 73 Ed bt

And from the Left Coast

A Happy New year to you all from Northern California, where the weather is, well, weather-like. Last weekend we were sailing on San Francisco bay in about 15 knots, using only the main and Yankee (too lazy to put up the staysail) and humming along at 6 knots. A sunny day in the low 60s, in between the storms. Just to make Ed feel better, yesterday I was shoveling snow off the driveway at our cabin in the mountains (at 5,000 feet we had more than 24 inches of new snow in two days). It was 19 degrees there this morning. Skiing was okay but I was still lying in bed nights thinking about fixing that Autopilot, and the rest of my winter list. Spring comes here when the storms stop, but we can still go out and enjoy the bay. Thanks toall of you who have contributed so much to my needed store of information this past year. It was one year ago today we took sail in San Diego for the first time as owners. And THAT is the good news from Good News, Still learning, Sanders

It's FREEZING up here!

Pulled the tarp over our 30 back in late October (lake was drained too much for us to stay in). Had every intention of going up every other week to check on things ... but it's been too damn cold! I hope to get up there this weekend to check things out and run a plug to the batts for a while. I really miss sailing this time of the year (and count the days until April). Happy New Year to us all!

I love the South

Man it's good to live down south. The boat stay's in all year, sometimes in Dec & Jan you can even get in a good sail. Well only if you don't mind high's in the fortys. Sorry just had to. Pat McCartin 1979/80 H30 "Therapy" Lake Lanier, GA

From New Orleans

a belated Happy New Year! While we can get some nice sailing days this time of year, I am presently a power boater. My H37C de-rigged mast is in the yard ready for new wiring and paint. We still are on RETREAT 6 nights a week though. And thank you for all your input during the last couple years in this forum. They have made a difference on my boat.

More snow ...

So much for my plans to get up to the boat this weekend. We're expecting over a foot of snow. Even if I DID make it to the boat ... it would be a trecherous climb up the 9 foot ladder to get on board. What kind of world do I live in where I need a nine foot ladder to board a sailboat. I think I'll move her down to Florida this summer and just retire 30 years early.
