I put togrther the following for our Christmas nailing but thought other sailors might like it: T’was the night before Christmas and in the boat yard All was quiet, with Liberty safe on the hard The dingy was tucked in the cabin with care In hopes that the springtime soon would be there The pillows and covers removed from their beds And everything’s winterized – yes, even the heads And Patti in her PJs, asleep on the bed Was dreaming of springtime, not too far ahead When out on the deck there arose such a clatter, I went to the boat yard to see what was the matter Up the ladder I climbed, and in the light of the moon Was a vision of springtime coming none too soon The moon on the breast of a new fallen snow Gave the luster of paint cans and boat jacks below When, what to my wandering eyes were afloat But a miniature slay and eight small Hunter boats With a little old driver so lively and quick That I knew right away that that it must be Saint Nick More rapid than a J-boat his coursers they came And he whistled and shouted and called them by name Now Enterprise, now Two Morrows, now Second Option, now Dolly G On Windrose, on Mick Mac, on Breakaway and Utopia III To the top of the cabin, and over the mast With boats full of memories of this whole year past As cold winds before the cold winter they come We think of the past year and all the good fun Our children and grand-kids and friends very dear And thinking of adventures to come through the New Year. With Apologies to Major Henry Livingston, Jr.
