A couple of years ago I had an issue with this motor. The Tilt and Trim function didn't work. There were no other issues with the motor or the electrical system, it is just the motor would not go down when pressing the down button. I asked the boat bottom cleaners if they would take a look and the next time I went to the boat the motor Tilt and Trim worked. Not sure what they did but I think it had to do with a pressure release valve screw on the side of the hydraulic pump.
Well I have been very busy lately and haven't had a chance to get to the boat. But when I did, I find, again, the Tilt and Trim is not working. I have been trying to unlock the pressure release screw to see if I can fix it, but I cannot get the screw to move more than 1/4 turn CCW. According to videos regarding releasing the pressure so the motor will go down (or up depending the current position) the screw should get maybe 2 full turns. I have even tried using an impact tool, but I don't think I am getting enough umph to move the screw. I am practically upside down trying to use the tool. I do plan on either moving the boat in the slip so I can get to it from the dock, or using my dinghy.
Now, for your expertise. Is there another way to release the pressure inside the cylinder? Maybe by opening the port to fill the reservoir? Do you think that might work (if I can get it open). Also, there seems to be a bit of dirt on the dirt seal of the cylinder rod. I might use either some oil or PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench on that part.
Thoughts, especially if you have a Yami Outboard with Tilt and Trim and have used the pressure release screw.
Thanks in advance.
