a problem i have discovered: when i drop the main, i have to have someone clip the aft part of the boom to the aft stay clip, or else the boom will be in the cockpit. i have seen some C25's with a wire that will hold the boom up. is this hard to install? what is required? can i do it with the mast up? any help would be appreciated.

Boom Topping Lift

The best way is to make it adjustable. Attach a line from the top of the mast to the end of the boom. Attach a block with a jam (vee) cleat, like the Ronstan RF341. Run the end of the topping lift through the block and in the jam cleat. Ease it while sailing, and tighten befor dropping the main. This will allow the boom to swing if the wind shifts while dropping.

Topping Lift

One of the first things I did on my C25 was add a topping lift and lose the pigtail. As Mick said, it couldn't be easier to install. For more info on the C25, check out the International Association, especially the Sailor's Forums. You won't find a better resource anywhere. Click on the Related Link...
