Where can I purchase some quality hand rails for the cabin top of my 25.5? The ones that are on there break if stepped on and may not be the originals.

Homemade

Peter, I replaced the rails on my 25.5 with thicker strips of teak, using the old ones as patterns. After sanding and finishing with cetol, they look much better than the original thin ones and are much sturdier. I don't remember the exact thickness of the replacements but they are about 1/4" thicker. West Marine sells teak or you might be able to find it locally. HTH Dick Vance H-25.5 "Honey Bear"

H & L Marine

Peter: Try H & L Marine in Southern Cal. They make the interiors for Catalina and several high end boats. You can reach them at 323/636-1718. I have had them make several things for me. They have off the shelf items as well as anything you want custom. Very good prices and nice quality.

Hand Rails for 25.5

Like a previous response, I went to our local lumber yard and bought a piece of mahogany board, 6"x1/2"x6', and had a local cabinet shop cut strips to match the existing ones on my boat. It took quite a bit of sanding until the edges were rounded. I first tried teak oil for a nice wood finish, but broke down after 9 months and resanded the mahogany 4 coats of spar varnish. Now the look great! Teak was too expensive so I tried mahogany and it seems to work just fine.
