I just purchased a 1970 Herrshoff American 18. For its age it is in nice condition including a nice sale. It had several owners none of whom sailed the boat. There were no halyards or the main sheet in the deal. I need help with the length and size of the two halyards and an appropriate length and size for the main sheet.

Have you "Googled" the boat model to perhaps find an owners manual or detailed brochure or a forum to check with? It is a catboat right? If you know how to thread the control lines, you may have to use some dirt cheap cordage, rig it as normal w/o sails and measure how much you need. Also, look at the sheaves for a proper diameter.
