The previous owner of the Tern ran most of the lines back to the
cockpit, and I like what he did. Take a look at "Tern" in the photo
section. The lines are, from port; topping lift, cuningham, third
reef, vang, jib halyard, first reef, second reef, main halyard, main
downhaul. At some point I need to straighten the runs to eliminate
chafe, but that will come. In addition, a downhaul for the jib and an
adjustable jib tackline, mostly for the asymmetrical, come down the
port rail. All this may seem, and probably is, unnecessary, but I find
it very convenient to be able to haul the jib down, and secure it, or
tuck in a reef while tacking the boat, all without leaving the helm.
I will at some point mount the mast on a hinge similar to
Lealea's. There is a photo of her mast step in the photo section
under "miscellaneous". Rig-rite, Inc.
Mast Step Hinge Assemblies has a hinged
mast plate assembly and a halyard organizer plate that may clean up
some of the spaghetti at the mast bail. The organizer is probably
preferable to the bail as there would be more separation between the
various blocks.
