halyard size 3/8?

Need to replace my main halyard. Is the correct size 3/8" or 5/16" for a 1986 Mac25?

Hi Norman.....New England Ropes recommends 5/16 Sta-Set(3000lb) for Main and Gib halyards on 21'-25'.I use 5/16 double braid on my 26X...works fine.Check out page 959 in your handy-dandy West Marine Catalogue.happy sail raising........dan
