84' H31My camera was dropped and its brains scrambled so I'll have to try to describe this the best I can. My mast is down and today I removed the masthead "plate" which reveals the shieves. There are 3 pairs of shieves....one forward, one aft, and one in the middle very close to the forward shieves. The jib halyard runs straight up and meets the shieve very nicely and out to the jib sail. However, on the mainsail side, just before the halyard reaches the masthead, it turns and goes around a metal bar and then on to the shieve. There has got to be a lot of chafe and friction as it rubs this bar. Could it be that someone routed the halyard wrong? Also, I can't figure out what the purpose of the pair of shieves in the center are for. They are so close to the jib shieves, I wonder if they are to prevent the halyard from jumping off the shieve. Could they be spares shieves to pull out and install in an emergency? I finally got a free weekend coming up to get all this done, so any help is appreciated.
